Ramos Gin Fizz - Unraveling the Froth Magic of old World New Orleans
The Ramos Gin Fizz is a classic cocktail known for its frothy texture and delightful flavour with a citrusy kick.
Created by Henry C. Ramos, a bartender at the Imperial Cabinet Saloon in New Orleans in the 1880's. The cocktail gained immense popularity in the early 20th century, becoming a signature drink of New Orleans.
The cocktail became famous at Ramos' bar, where he had a team called "shaker boys" who vigorously shook the drink to give it the frothy texture. The original recipe was a secret known only to a few, including the shaker boys.
It gained so much fame that during Carnival season in New Orleans, extra staff was hired to meet the demand. This labor-intensive shaking process led to the creation of the "Ramos Gin Fizz Mardi Gras," with up to 35 shaker boys making the cocktail during festivities.
