Southside Cocktail - Embrace your inner 'Al Capone' with a Prohibition Era Cocktail

The Southside is a classic cocktail that combines the refreshing flavors of mint, citrus, and gin creating a delightful balance of sweet, citrus and herbal flavors.

A cocktail with roots in the Prohibition era, the cocktail is said to have originated in Chicago, specifically in the South Side neighborhood during this era.

As the story goes, the Southside Gin Cocktail was a favored drink among the South Side gangsters, including notorious figures like Al Capone gaining popularity in the speakeasies and social clubs of Chicago, where it was appreciated for its ability to mask the low-quality spirits of the time.

The term "speakeasy" reflects the secretive nature of these establishments. Patrons needed to speak quietly or "easily" about the place to avoid drawing attention to it serving alcohol. Speakeasies hid behind unmarked doors, in basements, or as other businesses to avoid detection.
